In 1987 Greg designed numerous characters and solarpunk flying machines for the
Australian Bicentennial First state 88
exhibition in Sydney’s Darling harbour. It holds the record for most public visits to a temporary
exhibition in Australia.
Greg’s designs were constructed as larger than life working models on a moving track
with animatronic animal pilots.
Accompanying the exhibit, Greg wrote and illustrated the kid’s book “Echidna Airways: The Great Wungle Bungle Aerial
expedition” whch has sold well over 60,000 copies and is due for it’s fourth reprint.
Greg has since revisited this work and has developed numerous new story episodes
and developed the concept of an
animated TV and feature program based around the characters. The Computer generated versions
seen here were first
created in 1999.
The CGi models are presently being updated using more sophisticated software
Greg’s exhibition and 1987 book introduced the characters known
as the “Koala Brothers “ with their flying 18ft Skiff to the Wungle
Bungle outback airstrip. Greg’s original concept of the
adventures of a group of altruistic aviators and their outback
airstrip was “borrowed” by a later TV series with the same name
as Greg’s characters “The Koala Brothers”.
Greg’s TV pitch proposal was shown in 1999 to that series’
producers who emerged with a similar concept years later.
